IPINAGPATULOY ng Mapua Institute of Technology ang panggugulat matapos nitong isama sa mga biktima nito ang nangungunang San Beda College sa paghatak ng 101-97 overtime na panalo kahapon sa  NCAA Season 92 men’s basketball tournament sa The Arena, San Juan City.

Hindi hinayaan ng mga Cardinals na masayang ang pagkakataon na magwagi matapos dominahin ang laro sa  dagdag na limang minuto upang   itala ang kanilang ikawalong panalo kontra sa limang talo.

Dahil dito ay  mas napatatag pa nito ang pagkapit sa importanteng ikaapat na puwesto sa team standings at tumaas ang tsansang makausad sa Final Four.

Nagtala ng team high 26 puntos si Joseph Emmanuel Eriobu Jr. subalit mas sinandigan ng Cardinals sa overtime si Carlos Isit na naghulog ng 15 puntos, anim na rebounds at apat na steals sa laro.

Naputol din ng Cardinals ang five-game losing streak nito kontra Red Lions simula pa noong 2013.

Samantala, ipinakita ng University of Perpetual Help ang pagiging lehitimong  title contender  nito matapos na biguin ang Arellano University, 76-62, para makisalo sa ikalawang puwesto.

Naghulog si Gab Dagangon ng 22 puntos habang nag-ambag sina Bright Akhuetie, Daryl Singontiko at Kieth Pido na may 15, 13 at 10 puntos upang itulak ang Altas sa 10-3 kartada katabla ng  tinalo nitong Chiefs sa pangalawang puwesto.

Pinasalamatan naman ni Perpetual Help coach Jimwell Gican si Dagangon matapos ang laro.

“He’s hands down the best player in this game, he really raised his game to help us win,” sabi ni Gican patungkol  kay Dagangon.
