KOKO PIMENTEL
SA botong 20-3, ibinoto ng mga senador si Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III bilang bagong Senate President.
Si Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III ang nag-nominate kay Pimentel para sa posisyon pagkatapos ng pagbubukas ng 17th Congress alas-10 ng umaga Lunes. Sinusugan naman ito ni Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri.
Si Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero naman ang nag-nominate kay Sen. Ralph Recto, na isang miyembro ng Liberal Party (LP), bilang Senate President, na sinegundahan naman ni Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.
Bukod kay Recto, kabilang sa mga bumoto kay Pimentel ay sina Sotto, Zubiri, dating Senate President Franklin Drilon, Sen. Sonny Angara, Sen. Bam Aquino, Sen. Nancy Binay, Sen. Leila de Lima, Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, Sen. Richard Gordon, Sen. Gregorio Honasan, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Sen. Panfilo Lacson, Sen. Loren Legarda, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, Sen. Grace Poe, Sen. Joel Villanueva, at Sen. Cynthia Villar.
No-show naman si Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano sa naging botohan. Nauna nang nagpahayag si Cayetano ng kanyang interes na tumakbo bilang Senate President.
Matapos matalo, awtomatikong magiging Senate Minority Leader naman si Recto. Kasama niya sina Escudero at Trillanes sa minorya.
