TINAWAG ng mga United Nations (UN) rights experts si President-elect Rodrigo Duterte na napaka iresponsable kaugnay ng mga pahayag laban sa media.
“Irresponsible in the extreme, and unbecoming of any leader,” sabi ni
UN expert on summary executions Christof Heyns.
Ito’y matapos namang ipagtanggol ni Duterte ang pagpatay sa mga miyembro ng media.
“A message of this nature amounts to incitement to violence and killing, in a nation already ranked as the second-deadliest country for journalists,” dagdag ni Heyns sa isang pahayag.
Umabot na sa 174 na mga mamamahayag ang napapatay mula noong panahon ni yumaong dating pangulong Ferdinand Marcos.
Nagpahayag din ng pagkabahala si
UN independent expert on freedom of expression, David Kaye, sa naging pahayag ni Duterte.
“Justifying the killing of journalists on the basis of how they conduct their professional activities can be understood as a permissive signal to potential killers that the murder of journalists is acceptable in certain circumstances and would not be punished,” sabi ni Kaye sa isang pahayag.
Idinagdag ni Kaye na nakakabahala ang sinabi ni Duterte lalu’t hindi pa nabibigyan ng hustisya ang mga biktima ng Maguindanao massacre noong 2009 kung saan 58 ang pinatay kabilang na ang 32 miyembro ng media.
“This position is even more disturbing when one considers that the Philippines is still struggling to ensure accountability to notorious cases of violence against journalists,” ayon pa kay Kaye.
Binatikos din ni Kaye ang babala ni Duterte na hindi niya matitiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga mamamahayag.
“Such provocative messages indicate to any person who is displeased by the work of a journalist or an activist, for example, that they can attack or kill them without fear of sanction,” ayon pa kay Kaye.
Nauna nang hindi rin nakaligtas maging ang UN sa pagmumura ni Duterte.
“Fuck you UN… Shut up all of you,” ayon kay Duterte sa isang press conference noong Huwebes ng gabi.
