ABAP boxers lilipad bukas patungong China

LILIPAD bukas ng madaling araw ang buong delegasyon ng Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) para sa inaasam na masungkit ang mailap na silya sa 2016 Rio Olympics sa pagsabak sa Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualifying tournament na magsisimula bukas, Marso 23, sa Qian’ An, China.

Kinilala mismo ng ABAP ang anim na national boxers na siyang magtatangkang iuwi ang tatlong silya sa men’s division at isa sa women’s class.

Ito ay sina Rogen Ladon (light flyweight, 49 kilograms), Roldan Boncales (flyweight, 52 kg), Mario Fernandez (bantamweight, 56 kg), Charly Suarez (60 kg), Eumir Felix Marcial (welterweight, 69 kg) at Nesthy Petecio (women’s flyweight, 51 kg).

Ang anim na boxeers ay kabilang sa 14 boxers na dumalo sa 18-day training camp sa Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles at Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kabuuang 242 lalaki at 55 babaeng boxers ang sasabak sa qualifiers kung saan magtatangkang makaagaw ng silya ang mga koponan sa Asya, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa at Pacific islands.

Maliban sa Asia-Oceania qualifying event, sinabi ni ABAP executive director Ed Picson na may ilang pagkakataon ang mga boxers na makapagkuwalipika pa sa Olimpiada.“There are three more qualifiers the other boxers may be entered in the Women’s World Championships (Kazakhstan) and APB/WSB qualifiers (Bulgaria) in May and the Final AOB qualifiers (Azerbaijan) in June. We will send participants there,” sabi ni Picson.
