Ex-MRT head walang pera; humirit ng libreng abugado

Wala umanong pera si dating Metro Rail Transit 3 general manager Al Vitangcol III kaya hiniling nito sa Sandiganbayan Third Division na ikuha siya ng abugado sa Public Attorney’s Office.
Naghain ng mosyon si Vitangcol dahil malaki umano ang hinihingi ng mga abugado na kanyang kinausap upang siya ay ipagtanggol sa mga anomalyang kinasasangkutan.
“Accused Vitangcol had preliminary talks with ‘prominent’ law firms and, on the average, required him to put up One Million Pesos cash, up front, as acceptance fee and other legal fees,” ani Vitangcol.
Ayon kay Vitangcol nahihirapan siyang kumita dahil mayroon sana siyang pagkakakitaan pero hindi siya makaalis sa bansa dahil sa hold departure order na inilabas ng korte laban sa kanya.
“Thus, it would take time for the accused to generate and accumulate the funds necessary to pay for his counsel de parte,” dagdag pa nito sa mosyon.
Sinabi ni Vitangcol na pinalaki ang kanyang kaso kaya nahihirapan siyang kumuha ng abugado.
Si Vitangcol ay sinampahan ng kasong graft at paglabag sa Government Procurement Act kaugnay ng maanomalya umanong pagbibigay ng maintenance contract ng MRT sa Philippine Trans Rail Management and Services Corp.
Isa sa mga incorporator ng kompanya— si Arturo Soriano— ay tiyuhin ng kanyang misis.
