Ayon kay Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo hindi biro ang makaabot sa edad na 80 sa panahon natin ngayon.
“A community that cares for its elderly is one that is dynamic and abounding with blessings,” ani Castelo. “It is only fitting and wise to give back to the elderly who have offered so much and dedicated their lives’ work not only for the benefit of their loved ones but also practically for the general welfare of the community.”
Sa kasalukuyan ay mayroong 6 milyong Filipino na edad 60 pataas.
Ang nakukuhang benepisyo ng mga senior citizen ay 20 porsyentong discount at Value-Added Tax exemption sa mga bilihin at serbisyo.
Mayroon din silang limang porsyentong discount sa bayarin sa tubig at kuryente at libreng medical at dental service sa mga ospital ng gobyerno.
Sa ilalim ng Republic Act 10645 ang lahat ng senior citizen ay may benepisyo na mula sa PhilHealth.
