PANGUNGUNAHAN ng mga two-time Most Valuable Players na sina Danny Ildefonso, Willie Miller at James Yap ang 15 manlalaro na idadagdag sa listahan ng 25 pinakamahuhusay na manlalarong kukumpleto sa 40 Greatest Players sa kasaysayan ng Philippine Basketball Association.
Sina Ildefonso, Miller at Yap ang mangunguna sa mga bagong kasali sa Greatest Players ng PBA na kinabibilangan din ng mga dating MVP na sina Paul Asi Taulava, Eric Menk, Kelly Williams, Jayjay Helterbrand, Jimmy Alapag, Mark Caguioa at Arwind Santos.
Sina Jason Castro, Marc Pingris, Kerby Raymundo, Chito Loyzaga at Marlou Aquino ang kukumpleto sa 15 pangalan na idinagdag sa listahan at inaprubahan ng special nomination committee na binubuo nina PBA legends at dating mga senador na sina Robert Jaworski Sr. at Freddie Webb.
Sina PBA chairman Patrick Gregorio, vice chairman Robert Non, Rep. Elpidio Barzaga, ang chairman ng Games and Amusements committee ng House of Representatives, at mga mediamen na sina Joaquin Henson at Barry Pascua ang pumili ng 15 manlalaro.
“Forty will never be enough. We’ve had so many great PBA players since 1975,” sabi ni PBA chairman Gregorio. “But to celebrate our 40th season, we had to do the difficult task of naming the 40 greatest PBA players – the pillars of the league. Mga idolo ng bawat Pilipino.”
