MMFF: Tangkilikin ang Magic 8 kung gusto natin ng tunay na pagbabago!

SA IKA-42nd year ng Metro Manila Film Festival ay maraming nagulat nang ihayag ang walong pelikulang napili na maglalaban-laban simula sa Dis. 25.

Hindi lang ang movie industry ang nagulat kundi maging ang mga taong inaabangan taun-taon kung ano ang papanoorin nila ngayong MMFF. Wala kasi silang mapapanood ng mga pelikula nina Vic Sotto, Vice Ganda, Coco Martin at iba pang filmfest box-office stars na inaabangan din ng mga bata tuwing Pasko.

Ayon sa organizers ng MMFF, “quality films” ang napili nila na pinangungunahan nina QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, Allan Allanigue (broadcast journalist), Lawrence Fajardo (editor/director), Krip Yuson (author/novelist), Nicanor Tiongson (leading critic and creative writer, Ateneo de Manila University), Mae Paner (actress/aka Juana Change), Crispina Belen (former editor of Manila Bulletin/writer) at Ping Medina (actor).

Sabi namin, gustong ipunto ng komite na umpisahan na nating tangkilikin ang quality films bilang parte ng battlecry ng Duterte government na “change is coming.”

Sa 27 films na pinanood ng bagong komite ng MMFF ay walo lang ang napili na sa tingin nila ay dapat mapanood ng mga Pinoy ngayong Kapaskuhan.

“Naging madali ang proseso, walang nadoble, walang nagpasaway or anything. I think, we were all looking in the same direction na ang concern namin ay primarily, the quality of the films.

“Hindi kami nag-uusap habang nanonood kami, basta idya-judge namin ‘yung pelikula, ganu’n ang nangyaring evaluation and we kept the results by ourselves until the day of the deliberation,” paliwanag ni Mr. Tiongson na siyang chairman ng screening komite.

Hindi ba ibinase sa pagpili ng pelikula ang pagiging commercial nito? “Hindi naging factor ang commercial, ang concern ay the quality of the film, kahit sabihing ang ibang films ay made for money that’s not the concern po, sa ibang genres din, secondary na lang ‘yun (maging money), una ang quality talaga.

“We believe na with proper marketing, these choices will be commercial success kasi may laman. At gusto sana naming himukin ang manonood na tangkilikin natin ang mga ganitong klaseng pelikula kung gusto natin talaga ng tunay na pagbabago sa industriya, ipakita natin ‘yung mga pelikula na dapat sanang ginagawa, hindi lang nakakaaliw, nagmumulat pa,” ani Mr. Tiongson.
