PH bubuo ng palabang team sa Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball

MAGKAKAROON ng pagkakataon ang Pilipinas na makita ang antas ng volleyball sa pagharap sa mga mabibigat na koponan sa 1st Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship na gaganapin sa bansa mula Mayo 1 hanggang 9.

Hindi padedehado ang koponang binubuo ng Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas (LVP) at didiskartehan nina coach Roger Gorayeb at Sammy Acaylar dahil ang mga may pangalang manlalaro sa UAAP at NCAA ay kasali rito.

“Please be assured that our lineup will be very, very competitive. Lahat ng mga kilala ninyong collegiate players ay kasama rito,” wika ni LVP president Joey Romasanta sa press conference kahapon sa Crown Plaza Hotel sa Ortigas.

Ang mga manlalaro ng Ateneo na sina Alyssa Valdez, Julia Morado at Bea De Leon ay lalaro habang si Thai coach Tai Bundit ay tutulong din sa paghahanda ng koponan.

May suporta rin si businessman/sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan gamit ang TV5.

“Our players have no foreign exposures and this tournament will help us gauge where Philippine volleyball is at this point,” ani ni Romasanta.

May 12 koponan ang kasali at sa drawing of lots kahapon na pinangasiwaan nina Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) secretary-general Shanrit Wongprasert kasama si AVC Development & Marketing Committee at Philippine SuperLiga president Ramon Suzara, ang Pilipinas ay nalagay sa Group A kasama ang malalakas na koponan ng Iran at Kazakhstan.

Sasalang din agad sa laban ang home team sa unang dalawang araw ng kompetisyon laban sa Iran (Mayo 1) at Kazakhstan (Mayo 2).

Ang iba pang bansa at ang kanilang grupo ay China, India at Macau sa Group B; Japan, Taipei at Maldives sa Group C at ang Korea, Thailand at Uzbekistan sa Group D.

Ang tatanghaling kampeon ang kakatawan sa rehiyon sa World Championship sa Turkey mula Agosto 12-19.
