Pinas bida sa food reality show

NOONG Nobyembre 17 ay nagsimulang ipalabas sa Asian Food Channel ang second season ng “Amazing Food Challenge: Fun in the Philippines” kung saan 10 kalahok mula sa iba’t ibang panig ng Asia at Australia ang magpapakitang-gilas sa pagluluto ng pagkaing Pilipino.

Ang magwawagi ay makakatanggap ng $50,000 halaga ng cash at regalo. Bibigyan ng mga pagsubok ang mga kalahok hindi lamang sa pagluluto kundi pati na rin sa mga pakikipagsapalaran tulad ng patungo sa palengke, gubat, ilog at baybay-dagat.

Doon ay kanilang patutunayan nila kung gaano sila katikas, kalakas at katalino. Ang mga pagsubok ay magaganap sa gitna ng mga magagandang tanawin ng Pilipinas, tulad ng underground river sa Puerto Princesa, Palawan, sa baybayin ng isla ng Bohol at sa makasaysayang lunsod ng Iloilo.

Linggo-linggo ay mababawasan ng isang kalahok, hanggang sa tatlo na lamang ang maiiwan upang maglabanlaban sa premyo.

Naging matagumpay ang first season of “Amazing Food Challenge: Fun in the Philippines” at pinangako ni Derek Chang, ang Managing Director of Scripps Networks Interactive, Asia Pacific, na tagapamahala ng palabas, na higit na masaya, kahindik-hindik at nakakaganang pakikipagsapalaran ang second season.

Isa sa mga hurado na nagmula sa Iloilo si Chef Rafael “Tibong” Jardeleza. Aniya: “Isang malaking karangalan ang maipakita ang katutubong lutuin ng ating bansa.

At dahil sa palabas na ito, mailalagay na sa mapa at maihahanay na sa wakas ang pagkain ng Iloilo na binansagang “Food Haven of the South.”

Ang Asian Food Channel’s Amazing Food Challenge: Fun in the Philippines 2 ay mapapanood tuwing Huwebes, ika-9 ng gabi sa SkyCable (Ch 22), Dream Satellite TV (Ch 27), Cignal (Ch 26) and Destiny Cable TV (Ch 71 Analog and Ch 22.

Chicken Halang Halang
Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients
1 tbsp Ginger, julienne (sliced thinly)
6 cloves, garlic, minced
1 onion, roughly chopped
2 stalks lemon grass, pounded
1 kg whole chicken chopped
1 Small Green papaya, peeled and sliced into approx 1”x 2.5” pcs.
1 1/2 cups coconut milk
2 cups water
Chili leaves 1 cup packed
Siling haba (green chili) and or Labuyo (birds eye chili), as much as you like
Salt and pepper to taste
Fish sauce for extra seasoning

Instructions
1. In a medium stock pot sauté onion, garlic, ginger, and lemongrass in a bit of oil.
2. Add chicken sauté it just enough to render the fat about 5-8 minutes. Add the green papaya and sauté for another 5 minutes.
3. Deglaze the pot with coconut milk and water. Cover and turn the heat up to boil.
4. Once it boils lower the heat, keep the cover ajar, add the chili, and simmer until papaya is tender.
5. Season the soup with salt, pepper, and fish sauce. Turn off heat and add the chili leaves. Cover for 3 minutes to cook the leaves then serve.

Critical points: The chicken should still be tender and moist which could be avoided by not over boiling the chicken.
