BAHAGYANG pinapaboran ang Grand Slam-seeking San Mig Coffee kontra Rain or Shine sa simula ng kanilang best-of-five seryeng pangkampeonato ng PLDT Home Telpad PBA Governors’ Cup mamayang gabi sa SM Mall of Asia Arena sa Pasay City.

Ang Game One ay nakatakda sa ganap na alas-8 ng gabi at kapwa napaghandaan nang husto ng dalawang koponan ang serye matapos na dumaan sa magkahiwalay na semis na umabot sa sukdulang Game Five noong nakaraang linggo. Tinalo ng Mixers ang Talk ‘N Text samantalang dinaig ng Elasto Painters ang Alaska Milk.

Ito ay rebanse ng mga finalists ng Philippine Cup kung saan dinaig ng San Mig Coffee ang Rain or Shine para magkampeon. Nakamit din ng Mixers ang titulo ng Commissioner’s Cup nang talunin nila sa finals ang Tropang Texters.

Kung makakaulit ang San Mig Coffee sa Rain or Shine at mapapanalunan ang titulo ng Governors’ Cup ay makukumpleto nila ang ikalimang Grand Slam sa kasaysayan ng PBA.

Kung magkakaganito ay makakamit din ni coach Tim Cone ang kanyang ikalawang Grand Slam. Nabuo niya ang una niyang Grand Slam noong coach pa siya ng Alaska Milk.

“I guess the pressure is on us. But I know we can handle it. We’ve been through three straight championships and this is our fourth,” ani Cone. “The question maybe is the health of my players.”

Sa nagdaang semifinals ay nagtamo ng injuries sina Peter June Simon, Joe Devance at two-time Most Valuable Player James Yap. Sa kabila nito ay naglaro sila’t nakatulong sa pagpasok ng Mixers sa Finals.

Kung height ang pag-uusapan ay angat ang San Mig Coffee sa Rain or Shine dahil sa mga higanteng tulad nina Devance, Marc Pingris, Ian Sangalang, Yousef Taha, Rafi Reavis at Isaac Holstein.

Subalit hindi natitigatig si Rain or Shine coach Joseller “Yeng” Guiao.

“We have been prepared for this series. The battle against Alaska Milk prepared us well. Alaska was taller than us. We will just have to play with more intensity and heart,” ani Guiao.
