KUNG entablado at teatro ang usapan, for sure naman na sanay na sanay diyan ang dalawang veteran performers na sina Lea Salonga at Dolly de Leon.
Pero bakit kaya kabado sila sa pagbibidahan nilang upcoming play na “Request sa Radyo”?
Kamakailan lang, naimbitahan ang BANDERA sa exclusive Masterclass Session ng dalawang veteran stars na ginanap sa Circuit Makati at diyan nila isiniwalat ang mga karanasan nila sa theater, pati na rin ang tungkol sa play nila.
Isa sa mga naitanong sa kanila ay kung ano ba ang mas bet nila, ang teatro o ang paggawa ng pelikula?
Siyempre, ang pinili ni Lea ay ang teatro: “I feel much more steady in doing theater or concerts [because in] doing films, I don’t know their reactions could be, their reactions can be. So I depend on the other people around me to help me calibrate.”

Gayundin din daw si Dolly at aminadong nahirapan siyang mag-adjust sa paglipat niya mula theater papunta sa film and television.
Paliwanag niya, “I got theater so much more than film and television because there’s momentum that was built when you’re doing a play and you’re able to really feel the heart of your character’s going through. But in films, sometimes it does not run in chronological order and you don’t know where you came from and it’s hard to sustain the energy and the momentum.”
At kasunod niyan ay ibinunyag din niya ang ilan sa mga aasahan at aabangan ng audience sa “Request sa Radyo” na kung saan ay nakatakda sila ni Lea na magpalitan sa kanilang solo piece performances.
“In this case, wala kaming co-actors so we only have ourselves to rely on. If ever, ang kasama lang namin ni Lea dito is ‘yung sa ilaw and ‘yung sounds kung meron man,” sambit ni Dolly.
Ibinunyag din ng dalawa na ito ang unang beses na wala silang kakantahin at linya na sasambitin sa buong play.
“First of all because I think I hate about acting is memorizing the lines, so I’m just so happy na walang lines. Woooh! So excited about that!” masayang pagbabahagi ni Dolly.
Patuloy niya, “But at the same time, I’m terrified about boring them to death…There’s a lot happening [in the play] we’re moving around and moving things for the audience to get a hint of what we’re feeling on what we’re going through, but not word were spoken so that kind of terrifies me too…it’s a challenge I welcome.”
Nabanggit din ng batikang aktres na nakaka-relate din siya sa kwento ng kanyang karakter, lalo na’t naranasan niya rin ito noong mag-isa siya sa Germany dahil sa trabaho, habang ang kanyang pamilya ay nandito sa Pilipinas.
“I think it’s exciting because we’re telling a story of a woman who has no one to talk to and I experienced this. Nasa building ako and I come home from work so tired and I can’t even call my kids kasi 3 a.m. na doon, 10 p.m. pa lang sa akin. So I have no one to talk to, I know the feeling.”
Kahit si Lea looking forward na rin sa play dahil ito rin ang first time na hindi siya kakanta sa stage.
“The first thing i’m excited, hindi ako kakanta! Yehey! So there’s that where there’s no 45 minute vocal warm-up,” excited niyang ikinuwento.
Pero saad niya, “I better figure this out because as you said, I don’t wanna bore the audience to death even though there’s a lot happening in this tiny little apartment. How can we keep it interesting without saying anything? Without music?”
Ang “Request sa Radyo” ay isang Filipino adaptation ng “Wunschkonzert” or “Request Program” ng German playwright and film director na si Franz Xaver Kroetz.
Mapapanood ito simula October 10 hanggang 20 sa Samsung Performance Arts Theater, Circuit Makati.
