Markki Stroem nilabanan ang trauma dulot ng mental health condition: ADHD became my super power!

GINAWANG positive ng singer-actor na si Markki Stroem ang pagkakaroon niya ng Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder o ADHD.
Kaya naman sa halip na maging hadlang ito sa kanyang trabaho at iba pang pansariling interes, mas nakakatulong pa ito para mas maging productive siya sa bawat araw na dumaraan.
“My ADHD was such a detriment sa akin dati. Nahirapan talaga akong mag-memorize ng lines, mag-focus.
“Pero dahil love ko ang ginagawa ko, especially sa lahat ng mga ADHD people who were suffering, people in the spectrum who have the problem of lack of focus, it’s something that you can train on a regular basis,” ang paliwanag ni Markki sa ginanap na online mediacon ng bago niyang Boys Love series na “Love at The End of the World” kamakalawa, May 31.
Pagpapatuloy pa niya, “If some people will sit and memorize their lines like mabilisan lang, ako, if I get my script in advance every day, babasahin ko yun.
“Everyday, hahanap ako ng lahat ng mga kailangan kong sabihin in a certain way kasi natatakot ako na baka makalimutan ko on set or baka may mangyari na iba,” dugtong pa ng hunk actor.
Naibahagi rin ng binata ang pagkakaroon ng trauma dulot ng kanyang personality disorder, “Na-trauma rin kasi ako dati, and after so many years of experience, it has become so much easier now to memorize things.
“I’ve only realized this recently when I did All-Out Sundays (weekly variety show ng GMA). I had to do musical on the spot so kailangan aralin yung mga song, yung steps, yung scenes in one day.
“Three episodes yun, and nu’ng nagawa ko yun, sabi ko, ‘Parang kaya ko ito. Parang kaya ko ito in the long run na gawin.’ Kaya ko uling gumanap sa teleserye. Kaya kong bumalik sa movies. At the end of the day, ADHD became my super power.

“Sometimes you see ADHD as something that would be a detriment to you but if you look at some of your downfalls and some of your strengths, you can use it to your advantage,” paliwanag pa niya.
Kasabay nito, inamin din ni Markki na kaya hindi nagtatagal ang kanyang mga relasyon ay dahil sa kanyang sa health condition, “Disadvantages of ADHD is mahirap mag-focus. Palagi akong naglalakad back and forth. Parang iniisip ng mga tao, bakit ko ginagawa yun?
“Nahihirapan din akong magkaroon ng long-term and long lasting inter-personal relationships, minsan if I get pushed against the wall. It’s part of the spectrum, the autism spectrum, and some I learned from watching a series recently.
“Trying to deal with people is harder for me. Medyo sumasabog ako na mas mabilis because sometimes, there’s so many things happening at ang daming tao sa paligid ko na nahihirapan akong mag-focus.
“And because of that, minsan, nag-i-snap ako. Nangyayari yun. And I salute Albie Casino who spoke about this because he’s also suffering from ADHD.
“Ang positive traits of having ADHD, obviously, is kaya kong gawin lahat from morning to evening!
“May energy ako the whole day! Kaya kong mag-morning show. Kaya kong maging entrepreneur, kaya kong maging theater actor, kaya kong maging kung anu-ano left and right.
“And I can do it to the best of my abilities kasi gustung-gusto ko yung ginagawa ko,” paliwanag ng aktor.
Ito naman ang advice niya sa mga tulad niyang nagdurusa sa ADHD at natatakot umamin sa ibang tao, “I salute every one who suffers in the shadows. You can talk, there are other people that you can talk to.
