Training sa mga empleyado

Lisa Soriano - August 02, 2013 - 07:00 AM

GOOD day Aksyon Line! I’m an employe of a construction company since 2008.
I’m looking for a seminar/training that our company can provide but until now, I haven’t attended even once. Is it mandatory for a construction company to provide training for its employees?
If not, how can we urge our employer to provide us a training? Please help us. Thanks.
Jeremy
REPLY: Dear Sir Jeremy,

Construction companies are required to have a sufficient number of accredited construction safety practitioners depending on the number of workers. To be accredited by DOLE, the safety officer must have at least three years of experience in safety and the mandatory 40-hour Construction Safety and Health Training (CST).
The MOA -JAO signed by DOLE, DPWH, DTI-CMDF, DILG, PCAB and PRC also requires a DOLE-approved construction safety and health program which includes provisions for a one-construction safety and health training for all their workers, and a two-day training for the AMOs before they can secure a building permit from the LGU.
This MOA-JAO covers both the organic workers of the construction company as well as the workers of all the sub-contractors.
If you are handling heavy equipment, you must have training certifications from TESDA before you can actually be allowed to handle equipment such as scaffolds, cement mixers, etc.
Under the newly amended Occupational Safety and Health Standards Rule 1414 – Guidelines/Rules on Scaffolding, scaffolds can only be handled by competent persons who have undergone the Construction Safety Training and Scaffold Erector NC II certification by TESDA. All persons involved in scaffolding activities must be properly trained and certified.
If you are engaged in any of the above mentioned activities, you must be provided with the necessary trainings. f you are working for small construction company which can not afford to provide trainings for the workers, get in touch with the DOLE Regional Office in you area.
The OSHC is providing free CST for workers of companies identified by the DOLE Regional Offices.
