SEA Games: Second silver ng pencak silat hatid ng 16-anyos

SUBIC – Marahil siya ang pinakabata at kulang pa sa karansan kumpara sa kanyang mga katunggali, pero nagpakita agad ng gilas si Mary Francine Padios nbg Pilipinas matapos ang podium finish sa pencak silat women’s tunggal Martes sa Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center dito.

Ibinulsa ni Puspa Arum Sari ng Indonesia ang kanyang kauna-unahang ginto sa biennial meet matapos ang dalawang beses na subok nang magpakita ng saktong accuracy at firmness para sa 467 puntos.

Kinabig ni Padios ang medalyang pilak kasunod ng 454 puntos habang bromze medalist si Anisah Najihah Binti Abdullah ng Brunei Darussalam na may 451 points.

“It’s awesome. It’s amazing for me because it’s the second time I joined the SEA Games and finally I get the gold,” sabi ni Sari.

Ang second placing ni Padios ang ikatlo at huling medalya ng Pilipinas sa artistic demo category ng sport matapos magwagi si Edmar Tacuel sa men’s tunggal at mabingwit ng magkapatid na Alfau Jan Abad at Almohadab Abad ang pilak sa men’s ganda.

Nasa juniors team pa ang anak ng abogado at businesswoman ngunit ipinagkatiwala na kaagad ng Philippine Pencak Silat Association (PHILSILAT) na bitbitin ni Padios ang bandila ng bansa sa pinakamalaking  sports fest sa rehiyon.

Hindi ipinahiya ng 16-year old Grade 10 student mula Kalibo,  Aklan ang host country kasunod ng runnerup finish sa kanyang Indonesian idol.

“Masaya ako para sa sarili ko at sa kanya kasi idol ko yun eh, so sabi ko kahit matalo ko idol ko pa rin yun,” sabi ni Padios na kinatawan din ang Region 6 sa nakalipas na Palarong Pambansa.

“Ok na sa akin ‘yun eh kasi first time ko pa lang naman,” dagdag ng teenager na nais maging pediatrician balang araw.
