UP Fighting Maroons nasungkit ang No. 2 seed sa Final Four

HINDI nagpatinag ang University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons sa mga isinagawang ratsada ng De La Salle University Green Archers para maitakas ang 71-68 pagwawagi at masiguro ang twice-to-beat advantage sa UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball Final Four Linggo sa Ynares Center, Antipolo City.

Hangad na makaiwas sa playoff para sa puwesto sa Final Four, napigilan ng Fighting Maroons ang huling arangkada ng Green Archers para mauwi ang ikasiyam na panalo sa 13 laro.

Nagtapos si Bright Akhuetie na may 17 puntos habang si Ricci Rivero ay nag-ambag ng 12 puntos at si Kobe Paras ay nagdagdag ng 10 puntos para sa Fighting Maroons.

“There were ups and downs, but what is important for us was to not disappoint the UP community,” sabi ni Fighting Maroons coach Bo Perasol, na ang koponan ay nasungkit ang twice-to-beat advantage sa unang pagkakataon magmula nang gamitin ang Final Four format noong 1994. “They came here in throngs and they’ve supported us all throughout.”

Sa pagkatalo ng La Salle, nakumpleto na ang Final Four cast matapos na durugin ng Far Eastern University Tamaraws sa unang laro ang University of the East Red Warriors, 82-68, na nasikwat ang silya sa semifinal round.

Subalit ang format para sa semifinals ay malalaman lamang matapos ang lao sa pagitan ng Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles at UP ngayong darating na Miyerkules.

Kung magwawagi ang Blue Eagles, magkakaroon ng stepladder format kung saan hawak ng Fighting Maroons ang a twice-to-beat advantage kontra sa magwawagi sa pagitan ng FEU at University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.

Subalit kung mananaig ang UP, magkakaroon ng Ateneo-UST matchup at FEU-UP duel kung saan tangan ng Blue Eagles at Fighting Maroons ang twice-to-beat na bentahe.
