PINAGHIHINAY-HINAY ng EcoWaste Coalition ang mga magulang sa pagbili ng costume, decors at laruan para sa kanilang anak ngayong Halloween.
Ayon sa EcoWaste, nagkalat ang mga Halloween products na mayroong toxic chemicals na masama sa kalusugan.
“Our market investigation shows that many Halloween items, particularly children’s toys, are not properly registered with the health authorities and are oftentimes inadequately labeled or not labeled at all,” ani Thony Dizon, Chemical Safety Campaigner ng Eco-Waste.
Kahit na may phase-out na ang decorative paint na may lead, nagpositibo pa rin umano ang ilan sa mga Halloween items na kanilang binili.
Sa 35 Halloween items na kanilang sinuri, siyam ang mayroong lead na lagpas sa pinapayagang 90 parts per million.
Mayroon din silang na-detect na mataas na lebel ng antimony at bromine sa dalawang Halloween hairbands.
Isa namang ceramic Halloween candy bowl ang nakitaan ng 262 ppm ng cadmium.
“Such Halloween accessories and toys may pose chemical or choking risks for young children as the battery may easily detach from the item, get swallowed or placed in the ears or nostrils of a child,” dagdag pa ni Dizon.
