Payo ni ‘El Presidente’ sa Gilas Pilipinas

Dennis Christian Hilanga - September 19, 2019 - 08:51 PM

Kapag nanalo naman tayo dito it’s automatic that you go to the world competition or the Olympics,” sabi ni Fernandez na miyembro ng gold medal Philippine team sa 1973 FIBA Asia Championship.

Ayon sa PBA Hall of Famer at career leader in points, rebounds at blocks, “complete an all-star cast” ang winning factor ng Philippine delegation noong nakapaglaro siya para sa national squad.

Kasama ni Fernandez sa pambansang koponan ang kanyang mga Toyota teammates na sina Robert Jaworski Sr. at Francis Arnaiz at ang mga taga-Crispa na sina Alberto “Abet” Guidaben at William “Bogs” Adornado, gayundin ang 1972 Munich Olympians na sina Joy Cleofas, Danilo Florencio, Jimmy Mariano, Tembong Melencio at Manny Paner.

PREPARE EARLY, MORE INTERNATIONAL GAMES

“Form the team early, expose them in international competitions so they will improve a lot. If you are able to send them to higher level of competition mas malaki ang tsansa natin na mag-improve ng mabuti,” sabi ni 19-time PBA champion Fernandez.

Limang talo at walang panalo.

“It’s really hard to just set up a team in two weeks or one month or even two months unlike other countries mas matagal talaga preparation nila,” sabi pa ng four-time PBA MVP. “Basketball is a game of teamwork so ‘yun ang isang malaking disadvantage, kulang sa preparation.”

EUROPEAN COACH?

We have enough good coaches here, wala namang kaibahan ang basketball sa Europe, sa Amerika. Basketball pa rin ‘yan, the basics are the same. It’s just how you maximize your talent,” aniya.

“That’s the next big thing.

“He has the mobility, I’m glad that he’s going abroad to hone his skills more, that’s the best decison he made,” ani Fernandez.

Inaasahan ding magiging twin tower tandem ni Sotto si 6-foot-10 Filipino-Cypriot center AJ Edu na kasalukuyang naglalaro para sa University of Toledo ng US NCAA Division 1.
