Clarkson pinayagan na ng NBA, hiling ng lola matutupad na

MATAPOS na umapela ang Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) sa National Basketball Association (NBA) ay pinayagan na rin si Cleveland Cavaliers guard Jordan Clarkson na makalaro para sa Pilipinas sa 18th Asian Games sa Indonesia.
Unang ikinalat ang balitang ito ni Team Pilipinas chef de mission Richard Gomez sa mensahe niyang, “NBA gave the nod allowing JC (Jordan Clarkson) to play at the AG (Asian Games).”
Pero, dagdag pa ni Goma, “We will have to plead to INASGOC and OCA for his re-entry to play. JC will take the earliest flight available to Jakarta to make it to our game against Kazakhstan (on Thursday)”
Dahil dito ay maisasakatuparan na rin ni Clarkson ang tanging hiling ng kanyang Pilipinong lola na makita itong suot ang uniporme ng Pilipinas at naglalaro para sa bandera sa Asian Games.
Una nang tinanggihan ng NBA ang hiling ng SBP na makapaglaro si Clarkson sa Asian Games. Sa katunayan ay pinalitan na siya sa lineup ni Don Trollano ng TNT.
Ayon kay SBP Executive Director Renauld “Sonny” Barrios, bago pa man pumayag kahapon ang NBA ay tumawag sa kanya ang dismayadong si Clarkson.
“He just called us and said he is so disappointed because he wants to play for the Philippines to fulfill a vow and a promise to his ailing grandmother. Gusto niya tuparin ang personal na hiling sa kanya mismo ng lola niya na maglaro para sa Pilipinas at mapanood habang kasama ang national team,” ani Barrios.  —Angelito Oredo
