Butch naawa sa mga construction worker; binigyan ng longganisa
PRACTICALLY in the same shoes as he’s in, naiinggit (in an aspirational sense) kami sa (dating) TV host na si Butch Francisco.
Presently in between jobs (although he takes on acting chores once in a while), instead of seeing his resources slowly getting depleted ay nakuha pa niyang bumili ng isang condo unit kamakailan.
Dinispatsa na kasi ni Butch ang kanyang unit sa uppermost floor at a condo building in Greenhills, this habang ganap na niyang makita ang pagtatapos ng construction ng kanyang three-storey corner lot residence in New Manila.
Biro namin kay Butch, siya ang bukod-tanging kilala naming taong walang trabaho who can afford to amass properties as opposed to, well, us (insert sad-faced emoticon).
Ang ‘di naman daw kaluwagan at kalakihang brand-new, fully furnished condo unit na nabili ni Butch ay sa bandang Eastwood, “Dumalaw lang ako sa sister ko who owns a unit there, napabili na rin ako nang ‘di oras.”
A wise spender we’ve known him to be, mas ikinunsidera ni Butch ang ilang advantages of such purchase, “Kung ibabanko ko lang kasi ‘yung pera ko, it wouldn’t earn as much interest. Siyempre, nag-a-appreciate ‘yung value if you invest your money in real estate,” aniya.
Butch also took into consideration ‘yung location ng kanyang bagong unit which he eventually intends to have it rented, “Malapit sa lahat. Since I go to the gym regularly, magpapaikut-ikot lang ako du’n. And since being a member of the Manunuri (Urian), malapit lang din ang panooran ng sine.”
Samantala, ang bahay naman ni Butch sa New Manila—where according to him, traffic in the area is never a hellish problem—ay ilang porsiyento na lang ang unfinished.
Sa ngayon, natutulugan na niya nang ilang araw (after the simple housewarming with only six of them present including the priest) ang kanyang kuwarto sa ikalawang palapag nito.
May mga trabahante pa rin daw siya working at the ground floor setting up columns (pagkarinig namin ng salitang ‘column,’ we could visualize a somewhat Greek-inspired architecture).

Ito ang kuwentong medyo ikinabagabag ng aming damdamin. Late afternoon daw ‘yon nang usisain niya ang may anim na manggagawa in the middle of their back-breaking work.
“Ano’ng pagkain n’yo?” tanong ni Butch sa mga “constru” na nagdadala na rin daw ng kanilang gamit sa pagluluto at hilaw na pagkain para doon lutuin.
“Upo po, sir,” sagot ng isa. “Ano’ng sahog n’yo sa upo?” tanong ni Butch (na akala mo nama’y may culinary expertise, pero simpleng pagluluto ng longganisa ay tinanong pa sa inyong lingkod kung paano).
“Wala, sir. Basta igigisa lang namin ‘yung upo, ‘yun na po ‘yon,” pagkasabi raw sa kanya ng trabahante nu’n, Butch excused himself for a while, went up to his room only to return with several pieces of longganisa na bigay ng kanyang ate mula sa kung saang probinsiya.
“Eto, i-partner n’yo na lang sa igigisa n’yong upo,” was Butch’s practical tip, na hindi naman sinunod ng mga manggagawa who instead had the skin peeled off para isahog ang dinurog nilang longganisa sa sautéed bottle gourd (ginisang upo, mga bakla!).
It was at that juncture—sa haba ng pakikipanayam niya sa mga trabahante—that Butch discovered that each of the six workers would chip in P12 for their meal. Para makatipid, bibili sila ng hilaw at doon na magluluto.
Ang New Manila residence ni Butch ay ilang tumbling lang mula sa Broadway Centrum kung saan may supermarket housed at the building. Lakad keti lakad lang daw ang ginagawa ni Butch para masuyod ang vicinity unlike in his Greenhills unit where he had to take a car.
“Naggo-grocery na rin ako para sa kanila. One time, I bought them a can of luncheon meat. Imported pero gasino lang naman ang halaga nu’n?” he told us.
Nasabi tuloy namin kay Butch, we have something in common pagdating sa pakikitungo sa uring manggagawa. Ang kaibahan nga lang, column sa diyaryo ang meron kami, hindi (structural) column sa isang marangyang bahay.
