9 Pinoy nakakulong sa Cambodia dahil sa pagiging drug mule

PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA— SIYAM na Pinoy, kabilang na ang limang babae ang nakakulong ngayon sa Cambodia matapos masintensiyahan ng mula 23 taon hanggang 30 taong pagkakabilanggo dahil sa pag-i-smuggle ng droga.

Sa isang panayam kay Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Christopher Montero, sinabi niya na hindi naman tiyak kung matatalakay ang isyu kaugnay ng 9 na Pinoy na drug mule sa dalawang araw na state visit ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na magsisimula ngayong araw.

“As far as I know it may not be raised during the… they were taken cared of. We visit them regularly. almost after every month we provide them personal care items,” sabi ni Montero.

Idinagdag ni Montero na ilan sa mga nakakulong ang pinal na ang kanilang sintensiya, samantalang nakaapela naman ang iba.

“Galing sila normally in other countries, in the airport,  not domestically selling drugs, (but) smuggling ng cocaine normally from south America,” ayon pa kay Montero.

Hindi naman masabi ni Montero kung gaano karami ang nahuling droga mull sa mga Pinoy.

Sinabi pa ni Montero na walang death penalty sa Cambodia kayak hindi naman nanganganib na isalang sa parusang kamatayan ang mga Pinoy.

“Yung iba nakapagserve na nag 5 years, normally after seven years to 10 years, yung iba binibigyan na ng parole,” sabi pa ni Montero..

Ipinaliwanag pa ni Montero na kagaya ng ibang modus, inilagay ng mga nahuling Pinoy ang droga sa kanilang maleta.

“I was assigned in Brazil before and that’s were the drug mule came from, normally sa luggage o ingesting in their private parts,”  sabi pa ni Montero.

Sinabi naman ni Montero na inaasahang matatalakay ang kampanya ni Duterte laban sa droga sa kanilang bilateral meeting ni Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Ayon kay Montero, aabot ng 23,000 ang mga drug user sa Cambodia.
