PH men’s at women’s chess team wagi sa round 10 ng World Chess Olympiad

IBINUHOS ng Philippine men at women’s chess team ang matinding paglalaro matapos kapwa magwagi sa ika-10 round ng 42nd World Chess Olympiad sa Baku, Azerbaijan.

Winalis ng 53rd seed PH men’s team ang 63rd seed Scotland, 4-0, habang naungusan ng 46th seed PH women’s team ang 12th seed Italy, 2.5-1.5, upang kapwa patatagin ang kani-kanilang kampanya tungo sa ika-11 at panghuling round ng torneo.

Binigo ni Grandmaster Julio Catalino Sadorra si International Master Andrew Greet habang tinalo ni GM John Paul Gomez si GM John Shaw. Tinalo naman ni GM Eugenio Torre  si Fide Master Iain Gourlay bago kinumpleto ni GM Rogelio Barcenilla ang sweep victory laban kay FM Neil Berry.

Dahil sa panalo ay umakyat sa ika-39 puwesto ang men’s team  sa nakuha nitong 26.5 puntos at 12 match points. Makakasagupa ng PH sa huling round ang  Australia.

Muli namang sinandigan ng women’s team ang kauna-unahang woman GM ng Pilipinas na si Janelle Mae Frayna na tinalo si WIM Olga Zimina sa Board 1.

Ang tanging nabigo sa koponan ay si WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda na yumuko  kay FM Marina Brunello  habang nagwagi  sa Board 4 si WFM Shania Mae  Mendoza (1965) kontra WFM Desiree Di Benedetto (2183). Nakihati naman sa puntos si Christy Lamiel Bernales (2065) kay WFM Daniela Movileanu (2268).

Inokupahan ng 46th seed na Pilipinas ang ika-23rd matapos ang 10 round sa natipong kabuuang 25 puntos habang makakasagupa nito sa ika-11 at huling round ang 12th seed na Lithuania na may natipong 26 puntos.
