Duterte binatikos ang BOC sa pagpuntirya sa mga Balikbayan boxes

BINATIKOS ng galit na si Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte ang hakbang ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) na inspeksiyunin ang mga Balikbayan boxes sa pagsasabing layunin lamang nito na “gatasan” ang mga Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“Those Balikbayan boxes are sacred. They are an expression of love and affection. Nobody should be allowed to make a mockery of this sentimental bond between an OFW and his family back home,” sabi ni Duterte.

Idinagdag ni Duterte na ilang buwang pagsisipag at pagtitiyaga ang puhunan ng mga OFWs para makaipon lamang ng maipapadala sa kanilang pamilya.

“Alam ba ng mga taga Customs na pati ang pag-arrange ng mga pasalubong ay may emotional meaning?” dagdag pa ni Duterte.

Sinabi pa ni Duterte na bilang may-ari ng Air21, batid ni BoC Commissioner Alberto Lina na may mekanismo na maaaring ipatupad ang mga forwarding companies para matiyak na hindi nagagamit sa smuggling ang mga Balikbayan boxes.

“Commissioner (Alberto) Lina, who owns a forwarding company, knows pretty well that the safeguards could be implemented by the forwarding companies from the points of shipment,” ayon pa kay Duterte.
