PITONG Pilipino ang nasawi sa suicide bombing sa Yemen kamakalawa, kinumpirma ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) kahapon.
Sa pito, anim ay mga manggagawa sa isang ospital at isa ay doktor, ani DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez. Hindi pa tinukoy ng DFA ang pagkakakilanlan ng mga biktima dahil hindi pa nakakausap ang mga pamilya nito.
Ang mga Pilipino ay kabilang sa 52 na namatay nang ibangga ng isang suicide bomber ang kanyang sasakyan na puno ng bomba sa compound ng Yemen defense ministry kung saan 167 iba pa, kabilang ang 11 Pilipino, ang nasugatan.
Kasunod nito ang isa pang sasakyan na may lulan na armado na pi-naulanan ng bala ang gusali. Ilan pa sa nasawi ay dalawang doktor mula sa Germany, dalawa mula sa Vietnam, isang mula sa Yemen, at isang nurse na taga-India.
Ayon sa ulat, abala ang mga biktima sa loob ng ospital na matatagpuan sa compound nang maganap ang pambobomba.
Halos nawasak din ang nasabing ospital.
Nagpanggap na patay
Idinagdag ng opisyal na nagpanggap na patay ang mga Pilipino na nakaligtas sa pag-atake upang hindi madamay sa palitan ng putok na naganap pagkatapos.
“Based on accounts of survivors that [our Honorary Consul in Sana’a, Mr. Mohammad Al-Jamal] was able to talk with, he said that the incident started around 9:30 in the morning,” dagdag ni Hernandez.
“The first suicide bomber who tried to enter, detonated his explosives at the gate. Another one was apprehended before he could enter. But the third suicide bomber managed to enter and detonated his explosives causing [part of] the building to collapse,” aniya.
“Others survived the ensuing gun battle by pretending to be dead,” dagdag ni Hernandez. “We condemn this senseless and barbaric act and we call on the Yemeni Government to bring the masterminds to justice and to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of Filipinos and other foreigners in Yemen,” dagdag ni Hernandez.
