“BER” months na mga ka-bandera! Simula nanaman ng pinakamahabang Pasko dito sa ating bansa.
Kasabay nga rin niyan ay naglabasan nanaman ang mga kwelang “memes” ng binansagang Father of Philippine Christmas Songs na si Jose Mari Chan.
Nakapanayam ng programang “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” ang iconic singer at dito niya ibinahagi ang kanyang sikreto sa paggawa ng kanta.
Alam naman natin na sikat talaga si Jose pagdating sa mga classical Christmas songs tulad ng “Christmas in Our Hearts,” “Perfect Christmas,” “Little Christmas Tree” at marami pang iba.
Ayon sa legendary singer, nauuna lagi ang tono ng kanta at susundan niya ito ng lyrics.

“Almost always is the melody. Sometimes I hear that at night and I tell myself, ‘tomorrow morning when I wake up, I’m going to write it down or record it,’ almost always, Boy, like a song in the night, it disappears,” kwento niya.
Patuloy pa niya, “That’s why from now on, everytime I hear a melody, I have to sing it right away and write it down so then I won’t lose the melody and then the lyrics come afterwards.”
Nang tanungin naman siya kung sumailalim ba siya sa voice lessons o vocal training noong bata pa siya.
Ang sabi niya, self-trained lamang siya at kadalasan pa nga raw ay sinusundan niya lang ang mga napapakinggang kumakanta sa radyo.
“I never get a vocal coach all my life. When I was a little boy, I sing along to the songs I heard in the radio,” sambit ng batikang singer.
Ibinunyag din ni Jose ang mga simple niyang ritual sa tuwing magkakaroon siya ng pagtatanghal o concert.
“Before I [go to the] concert, I vocalize for about an hour,” chika niya.
Aniya pa, “I would [also] clear my nose so that I can breathe normally, and then I also have an idiot board so that sometimes I forgot my own lyrics –at my age, Boy, sometimes I forget na.”
Sa huli ay nagbigay siya ng payo sa mga batang musikero at composers.
“With the technology change, it’s very hard to live on music. That’s why my advice to young composers, young singers is to use that as a hobby or on the side,” payo niya.
Patuloy pa niya, “But get another career either in law or accounting or medicine and then just do music on the side.”
“Don’t lose it completely because that’s God’s given gift to you,” aniya pa.
