“That’s why I have to keep consulting, ‘Ano? Ano raw?’ This is one of the difficulties that I had while we were shooting. Naging running joke na nga, e, because the director would come to us and explain the scene, everything ongoing.
Ano raw?’ you know. Naging running joke na,” aniya.
“It was very frustrating for me but, at the same time, doon mo makikita ang samahan namin. They were also patient with me and so very helpful which helped me, you know, finish this movie.
“And it’s because we love, kami lahat, we’re really a part of the family. We had fun doing it, ako in spite of my hearing problem, because of these guys,” pahayag pa ng aktor.
Kuwento pa niya, totoong nahirapan siya sa schedule ng shooting ng “Family Matters”, “Couple of hours shooting, after that, go home. Couple of hours, balik na naman. Malayo ang aking ano, e, yung bahay ko from the set.
“So in that case, ang hirap! But it was also the most pleasant shooting I’ve ever experienced and that’s because of these people. We were really one happy family.
“During breaks, meron kaming sayawan, you know. So it was a terrific group.
“Masaya! Masayang-masaya! Kaming dalawa ni Liza (Lorena), we spend the time singing old songs.
“Nagko-contest kami. ‘O, eto, alam mo?’ I would sing one and then I’d sing another. In the meantime, while we were doing that, two of the young people… they would be dancing habang kumakanta kami.
“They were doing it in a modern dance. And that’s how we spent our time while waiting for the scene.
“People have been approaching me to shake my hand, have their pictures taken with me because of the trailer.
“For example, merong lumapit sa akin. Big man, maton! Salamat! kako. And this has been going on.
“And may I cite two people responsible for this, not just the trailer but for the movie. I want to cite, first of all, si Mel [Mendoza-del Rosario] because of the wonderful story, the script.
“Nu’ng pinresent sa akin yung script the first time, I told myself, ‘I have to do this!’ dahil pagkaganda-ganda nung script.
“The second person I have to cite for this movie, e, si Direk (Nuel Naval) You know si Direk, very quiet director but he guides you all the way.
“He will explain to us what the scene is about. He will explain to us what went before, what went after, ano ang relationship namin dun sa mga characters na nandu’n.
“In other words, hindi niya sasabihin, ‘Ganito mo gawin ang arte mo, ha?!’ But he will give you the ammunition so that nasa sa iyo na to portray what’s in his mind.
“So for that I also thank tukayo, I call him tukayo, almost tukayo, si Nuel, because he really guided us in any scene.
“Kaya I was saying, sana merong category na Best Ensemble Acting in a Movie. Because surely, we will qualify for that. And that’s because of Direk. Because of Direk.
“Somehow nabuo yung gusto niya. Yung gusto niya, nabuo because of the way he directed us,” pahayag pa ng aktor.
