RYAN kakaiba ang style sa pagdadrama, pwede nang makipagsabayan kay JUDAY

“ANO Ang Kulay ng Mga Nakalimutang Pangarap” is truly heartbreaking. With the third Sining Pambansa National Film Festival All-Masters Edition starting yesterday with several premiere nights and opening of the ten films of master directors, sa dalawang entry lang kami na-invite, Maryo J Delos Reyes’ “Bamboo Flowers” and Joel Lamangan’s “Lihis”, at sa isa pa ang pinapanood naman in private screening, Joey Reyes’ “Ano Ang Kulay Ng Mga Nakalimutang Pangarap” .

May common factor din ang tatlong movies as all three entries will be released by GMA Films and its TV rights bought by the Kapuso Network. Director Joey is thankful na isang kuwentuhan lang with GMA Films top man Joey Abacan, naibenta niya ang movie niya, so ito pala ang huling nahanapan ng producer and may we add this early na hindi nagkamali ang GMA Films sa pagbili sa movie dahil this is a winner.

“Ano Ang Kulay Ng Mga Nakalimutang Pangarap” (English title is What are the Colors of Forgotten Dreams?) is about Teresa (Rustica Carpio sa present, Kim Rodriguez in the first years of flashback and Ruby Ruiz in the middle of the story flashback), ang yaya ng ina and then later on ng magkakapatid na Andrei (Ryan Agoncillo), Stella (Jackielou Blanco) and Vince (Bobby Andrews).

Pero namatay na ang ina nila at ang tatlo naman, based na sa iba’t-ibang bansa and so they must sell the ancestral house with one question, what happens to the old nanny.

Pasakalye muna as Director Joey told us na ang choice pala ng entries sa said Sining Pambansa is that it must be a director’s dream project and this story about a yaya is his.

Several scenes of the movie, we know from the heart specially the part na may itinatagong box si Rustica, all her memories of the family as ours has her own box din of mementos.

We don’t like the characters of the three siblings pero ito ang kuwento so mas lalo kaming naawa kay Rustica lalo na ng siya mismo ang personal na nakarinig ng plano sa kaniya ng magkakapatid na dalhin na lang siya sa home for the aged.

The ending is truly a four-hankie scene walang hindi naiyak sa conference room habang pinalalabas ang movie and Director Joey is right, no character wept in the story dahil he wants the audience to weep for the characters and he succeeded.

Now as Direk Joey ponders his own immortality, it seems that his recent projects are beginning to be personal and close to the heart. Back to back ang dalawang movies niya which we like so much; this one and the Cinemalaya entry “Mga Mumunting Lihim” two years ago.

“Ano Ang Kulay Ng Mga Nakalimutang Pangarap” is quiet specially for a Joey Reyes movie known for his sparkling dialogues and witty repartee.

That doesn’t mean na walang nakalusot na gems as there were parts of the movies na hindi lang kami sa kuwento nagri-relate but also sa dialogue.

The movie shines in the acting department though. Sa “Lola” noon ni director Brillante Mendoza, mas na push namin si Ms. Rustica over Ms. Anita Linda dahil feeling namin, the better actress talaga ang eighty four year old still professor sa PUP.

Direk Joey seems to think that too so he promises the actress na once matuloy ang movie, sa kanya ito ibibigay at hindi nagkamali ang choice.

Ms. Rustica always knows how to act without seemingly acting, natural ikanga. Dito, she never cries, she never breaks her voice and she never delivers long dialogues but she is so effective siya talaga ang lynchpin ng movie that if she’s not there, it won’t work.

Then there’s Ryan who is really good in drama if given the chance once in a while like here. Always in comedy and hosting, Ryan has the quiet demeanor na hindi nakikipag-agawan ng eksena and yet the attention is focused on him if he’s in the scene unlike one of his co-stars na dinadaan sa sigaw ang acting.

Jackielou is also good and so is Chynna Ortaleza bilang si Monette, ang asawa ni Andrew. Then there are the group of indie actors that really know their jobs well.

Rated A by the Cinema Evaluation Board, “Ano Ang Kulay Ng Mga Nakalimutang Pangarap” is from Largavista Entertainment with the support of GMA Network as part of the Sining Pambansa All-Masters Showcase sponsored by the Film Development Council of the Philippines and SM Cinemas.

The movie will have its gala showing tomorrow, Sept. 9, sa SM Megamall Cinema 7 at 7 p.m. and regular screening will be from Sept. 11 to 17 so don’t miss this one.
