Ayon sa Kevin, humingi siya ng advice kay Kris tungkol sa dalawang Pinoy characters sa bagong labas na libro niyang “Sex and Vanity.”
Ang tinutukoy ni Kevin Kwan ay ang mga karakter ng magkapatid na Paloma at Mercedes Ortiz na inilarawan sa kuwento na, “from the oldest and most revered families in the Philippines.”
“I had asked my friend Kris Aquino for recommendations on the school of the Ortiz sisters,” pahayag ni Kevin sa panayam kamakailan ng Metro.Style (sa cable channel).
Ang suggestion daw ng mommy nina Joshua at Bimby ay ang St. Scholastica’s College na inilarawan nitong, “Catholic institution for women which was established in 1906 and managed by the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing, Germany.”
“This might have come to pass because Kris’ mom, the late president Corazon Aquino, is one of the school’s distinguished alumna, who even has the Cory Aquino Hall named after her,” aniya pa.
Sabi ng author, kailangang bigyan ng highlight ang edukasyon sa mga karakter sa “Sex And Vanity” para ipakita ang kanilang background.
“And for me, I wanted to poke fun at educational snobs. I went to public high school, public university, and I thought I had a great education.
“And then I moved to New York! I was going to parties and I was meeting all these young East Coast elites, and within three minutes of meeting them, they will tell you they went to Harvard, to Princeton, to Stanford—and where did you go?” sabi pa niya sa nasabing interview.
Dagdag pa niya, “Everyone’s always announcing their entire educational resumes. So I wanted to throw it out there in the book, so you could see and judge them immediately. So it became a funny joke to do.”
Nagkakilala sina Kris at Kevin noong 2017 nang magkita sila sa international book tour ng best-selling author na ginanap sa Cebu para sa libro niyang “Rich People Problems.”
Noong 2018 naman, nagkaroon si Kris ng special role sa movie adaptation ng nobela ni Kevin na “Crazy Rich Asians” kung saan ginampanan niya ang karakter ni Princess Intan.
