IBINASURA na ng liderato ng Kamara de Representantes ang hakbang na bigyan ng provisional franchise ang ABS-CBN upang makabalik ito sa pagbo-broadcast habang dinidinig ang renewal ng kanilang prangkisa.
Tumayo kahapon si Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano sa plenaryo at sinabi na lumala ang paghahati-hati ng mga kongresista sa isyu ng ABS-CBN.
“Because of all this divisiveness and after all consulting with members of the House…. I, together with the House of Representative leadership decided to forego with the provisional franchise and immediately proceed with the hearings for the full 25-year renewal app of the ABS franchise,” ani Cayetano.
Ang House committee on legislative franchise na pinamumunuan ni Palawan Rep. Franz Alvarez, ay inatasan na magsagawa kaagad ng pagdinig sa mga panukala kaugnay ng ABS-CBN franchise.
“The hearings must be fair, impartial, comprehensive and thorough,” apela ni Cayetano.
“To the extremists outside Congress who are either for or against ABS franchise renewal: don’t poison the debate. It will not help your cause nor enrich your position. Let love and reason carry our passions and argument, not hate and obsession,” saad pa ng lider ng Kamara.
Kasama sa panukalang tatalakayin ng Legislative franchise committee ang inihain ni presidential son at Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte na nagpapatawag ng imbestigasyon sa mga alegasyon laban sa ABS-CBN.
May 11 panukala na inihain para i-renew ang prangkisa ng Channel 2.
Hindi naman naitago ni Cayetano ang kanyang sama ang loob sa pagnanais ng ilang kongresista na unahin ang prangkisa ng ABS-CBN kaysa sa ibang panukala na kailangan ngayon ng bansa sa pagharap sa mga problemang dala ng coronavirus disease 2019.
“Arguing that the fate and future of one private corporation, no matter how influential, cannot be weighed against the welfare of the nation and the well-being of the people,” ani Cayetano.
“We are talking about survival. We are talking about people’s lives. We are talking about people’s livelihood. So akala ko, pag sinabing timeout lang, di ba, dahil para sa bayan naman ‘to, para sa ating lahat, we can find a consensus.”
Hinihintay pa kung kailan magsasagawa ng pagdinig ang komite.
