“It has come to our attention that some employers neglect their responsibility to abide by the requirements set by the agency, ignoring the welfare of their employees. This week, construction workers were reported seeking for help beside the Tektike building exchange road in Ortigas, Pasig City. As we have learned from our visit and discussion with them, their employers Cecon Builders and E.A. Escauso Masonry Contractor have not extended assistance to them since the start of the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine, leaving them with inadequate food supply,” ani Yap.
Sumulat si Yap kay DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III upang paimbestigahan ang Cecon Builders at E.A. Escauso Masonry Contractor.
“I learned from the spokesperson of the construction workers, Junrel dela Cruz, that a laborer gets only ₱375 per day while a carpenter is paid ₱475, when the minimum wage in NCR is set at ₱537. The employers should answer for this violation,” ani Taduran.
“There are other construction workers who are not getting paid as their projects stopped but could not go home because of the ECQ. The government should also look into their situation. And their project managers should be responsible for them as well,” ani Tulfo.
