JUBILEE Christian Academy boosted its title-contending status with a stunning 71-59 victory over erstwhile unblemished Saint Jude Catholic School last Sunday in the Boys Juniors division of the 7th Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) basketball competitions at the Uno High School gym.
It was the third consecutive victory in as many assignments for the Jubileeans while the loss pulled the Green Knights out of the unbeaten ranks following three straight wins.
Jubilee never trailed throughout, securing a double-digit advantage after the first period and was not seriously challenged at any time. Miko Lim knocked in 22 points to lead four JCA players in double-digit scores. Mallechi Colby labored to score 15 points for SJCS.
Host Pace Academy and Grace Christian Academy jointly share the No. 3 spot with a 2-1 record. The Pacers fell to the Green Knights, 77-54, last week to have their two-game winning streak halted.
Grace Christian Academy, on the other hand, registered a masterful 95-70 triumph over defending champion Philippine Cultural College last Sunday behind Joshua Peter Chan, who fired a tournament-high 36 points and collected nine steals, for its second win in a row after dropping its season opener to Jubilee. With the defeat, the Golden Seagulls fell to 1-1.
MGC New Life Christian Academy evened its record to 2-2 with a 71-49 spanking of winless St. Stephen’s High School last Sunday for its second consecutive win. Pierce Steven Dino topped the New Lifers with 16 markers.
Uno High School (0-3) and St. Stephen’s High School (0-4) hog the outhouse of the eight-team tournament without a single victory.
In Girls Juniors, elongated Vivian Hou nearly recorded a near triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals as Grace Christian College zoomed to the top of the team standings with a walk-in-the-park 82-28 rout of winless Philippine Cultural College (0-3) last Sunday for a lily-white 3-0 record in the six-school festivities.
Defending champion Saint Jude Catholic School dropped out of the unbeaten ranks when erstwhile winless Jubilee Christian Academy upset the Lady Green Knights, 54-50, earlier in the day, behind Aryana Fenix’s 17-point, 15-rebound, 6-assist, 4-steal performance.
Saint Jude slipped to 2-1 and Jubilee improved to 1-3.
