1st Week of Advent First Reading: Is 29:17-24
Gospel Reading: Mt 9:27-31
As Jesus moved on from Capernaum, two blind men followed him, shouting, “Son of David, help us!”
When he was about to enter the house, the blind men caught up with him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do what you want?” They answered, “Yes, sir!”Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, “As you have believed, so let it be.” And their eyes were opened.
Then Jesus gave them a stern warning, “Be careful and let no one know about this.” But as soon as they went away, they spread the news about him through the whole area.

A blind man walks into a shop with his dog in tow. He picks his dog up and starts swinging it around. When the shop keeper asks what he is doing the blind man replies “just looking around!!!” (From the internet).
Blind men walk around with the aid of a cane or a dog. Without these aids, they would grope their way around.
This makes us wonder how the two blind men in today’s Gospel reading followed Jesus up to his house in Capernaum.
Perhaps, as they did so, they were bumping into many other people who also followed Jesus. We are almost sure they did not have a dog to guide them because dogs were not the favorite animals in biblical times.
It must have been with great difficulty that they tailed behind Jesus.
They did not mind the great sacrifice because they firmly believed Jesus had to power to heal them.
Jesus himself confirmed their faith when he asked:
“Do you believe that I am able to do what you want?” Their answer was an astounding
“Yes”. At this Jesus told them: “As you have believed, so let it be.” It was then that they were healed. We too have been following Jesus since the day of our baptism.
We are better off because aside from the fact that we have the Christian community backing us up, we havethe gift of physical sight to see clearly where we are going. Yet some are half-hearted in following him.
If not for fear of the loss of heaven and the pains of hell they wouldn’t have kept an eye on Jesus. It is really for the sake of convenience. As they keep an eye on
Jesus just in case heaven really exists, they tail behind the devil, enjoying every minute ofhis company.
Others may not be tailing behind the devil. But they keep making so many diversions. Can’t they see that time is short and life is fleeting and that there is not much time left to squander?
