First gold sa 30th SEA Games susungkitin ng Pinoy triathletes

SUBIC, ZAMBALES- Kasado na ang Philippine team na sungkitin ang unang gintong medalya ng bansa sa tangkang pagdepensa ng korona sa women’s at men’s crown kapag sumikad na ang 30th Southeast Asian Games triathlon individual events bukas. Dec. 1.

Babanderahan nina reigning queen Kim Mangrobang, 2017 SEA Games silver medalist Claire Adorna at first-timer Kim Kilgroe ang Philippine delegation sa 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run endurance race na magsisimula at nmagtatapos sa Subic Bldg. 229 dito.

Higit na inaasahan ang back-to-back medal finishes kina Mangrobang at Adorna kasunod ng matagumpay na pagtatapos dalawang taon na ang nakalilipas sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  Napanalunan din ni Adorna ang ginto noong 2015 sa Singapore.

Si SEAG veteran John Chicano at ang mga bagitong sina Andrew Kim Remolino at Jose Casares ay hangad din ang ikatlong sunod na titulo sa men’s division.

Nais ni Chicano, ang silver medalist sa nagdaang edisyon ng biennial meet, na punan ang pagkawala ni defending champion Nikko Huelgas matapos hindi makasama sa individual event roster dahil sa tinamong injury.

Pinalitan ng Cebuano premiere triathlete na si Remolino si Huelgas sa pwesto.

Napili si Remolino para sa national team nang maging unang Filipino elite na nakatawid sa finish line ng Gyeongju ASTC Asian Triathlon Championships Hunyo ngayong taon.

Pero isusuot pa rin naman ni Huelgas ang national colors para sa  mixed team relay na gagawin sa Dec. 4 kung saan makatutuwang niya sina Chicano at Casares. Ang Pinay trio nina Adorna, Mangrobang at Kilgroe din ang lalaban sa mixed team relay.
