Ronnie Carrasco III - October 14, 2019 - 12:20 AM

Naglalaman ang isang capsule ng Fast Talk with Kuya Boy, ang last segment ng TWBA just before the closing spiels of the host.

No explanation is necessary kung bakit this is the guest’s answer and not the other.

As the segment title apparently suggests, mabilisan dapat ang sagot kung paanong nagdudumali rin ang pagtatanong ni Kuya Boy. Not only is Fast Talk a test of one’s presence of mind, it’s also a gauge of grace under pressure.

Kung hindi kami nagkakamali, nasa 10 rin ang bilang ng mga ibinatong tanong kay Imelda, one of which was “Lights on? Lights off?” Imelda burst into laughter na parang ayaw niyang patulan ang may halong kabastusang tanong.

“Naku, Vice Governor (ng Camarines Sur) pa naman ako,” or words of Imelda obviously dodging the question dahil baka kung ano raw ang isipin sa kanya ng kanyang mga constituents.

But nothing escapes Kuya Boy who found an ingenious way never to leave his question unanswered, “Mel, kaso gustong malaman ng mga constitents mo kung alin ang gusto mo: lights on o lights off?”

Kunsabagay, let’s face it, the hardest question to answer is the easiest. Pero sa kaso ni Imelda na hindi naman hinihingi ang kanyang opinyon halimbawa on sensitive government issues as if she were thrown into a Q & A portion of a local beauty contest, sagutin niya na lang.

“Sex or chocolates?” isa pang tanong ni Kuya Boy sa kanya.

‘Yun ang kasong parang sinagot mo na rin ang tanong, with or without lights!

Still on Imelda’s promo guesting on TWBA, hiningan siya ng reaksiyon ni Kuya Boy tungkol sa kanyang reaksiyon sa version ni KZ Tandingan ng kanyang “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig.”

Although we have yet to hear KZ do a revival, she’s known to be one of the country’s best singers. Ang sabihing “good” siya ay marahil isang uri ng pagkukuripot sa maaaring ibigay mong compliment sa kanya although kung isasalang din kami sa Fast Talk at pamimiliin kami between her and Morisette Amon ay ang huli ang isasagot namin, kasama pati paa.

Medyo nag-iba ang rehistro sa mukha ni Imelda, bumuwelo muna bago malumanay na sinabing, “She’s good.” Sinusugan ni Imelda si Kuya Boy who said, “It’s her style.”

Hindi namin eksaktong alam kung flattered ba si Imelda that some other soul chose to interpret one of her songs, kung paanong tandang-tanda namin ang sinabi noon ni Dina Bonnevie sa kung sinuman ang mangangahas na i-revive ang kantang awiting “Bakit Ba Ganyan?”a Vic Sotto (her ex) composition, sumikat ang nasabing kanta during the early 80s. At tulad ng alam nating lahat, Dina is no singer who—in fairness—doesn’t pretend to be one. And whoever would dare revive it would sound a 100 times better than Dina.

But it’s her rawness that makes Dina sound distinct, kung paanong malabong mabigyan ng hustisya ni Regine Velasquez ang “Bobby, Bobby, Bobby” ni Ate Vi (Vilma Santos) noong dekada sitenta.

Imelda Papin o KZ Tandingan? Depende na lang kung tagasaan ang nakasalang sa Fast Talk: from Bicol or from Mindanao?
