Pagkatsugi ng ‘kampon’ sa MMFF mas makabubuti sa kalusugan ni Kris

KRIS AQUINO

IN a sense, we tend to believe that, after all, Kris Aquino knew that she wasn’t meant to field an entry to this year’s MMFF exercise.

Tulad ng alam ng lahat, her “(K)ampon” film with Gabby Concepcion as Derek Ramsey’s replacement is out of the race dahil hindi nito na-meet ang deadline notifying the festival committee about the change in cast.

Ito’y sa kabila pa mandin ng production efforts to get the movie done to make it to the submission deadline in October.

Way ahead of the bad news, hindi naman lingid sa kaalaman ng publiko that Kris’ health problems are taking a heavy toll on her. And to be able to make a go for the movie ay kailangan niyang humingi ng medical clearance from her doctor/s. Mas makabubuti ito sa kalusugan niya.

Nang ianunsiyo ang unang apat na nakapasang entries, bagama’t ikinatuwa ‘yon ni Kris ay aminado siyang hindi niya ine-expect that “(K)ampon” would make it to the shortlist.

Du’n pa lang ay malakas na ang intuition ni Kris na alanganin ang lagay ng kanyang entry, deemed as a vehicle para ma-reclaim niya ang titulo bilang Horror Queen na pansamantalang pinagpasa-pasahan ng ilang aktres who’ve shone as well in the genre.

But rules are rules.

May mga alituntunin ang MMFF—strict as they may be—that need to be followed to the letter. Bagay na para sa amin ay imposibleng na-overlook ng Quantum Films which is no neophyte in the annual event.

Imposible ring isisi ang oversight on the part of Kris, she’s cashing in on the project na ewan kung anong arrangement niya with Atty. Joji Alonzo in terms of capital investment.

Still on Kris, this is a story of long ago.

The 90s saw a Massacre Queen in Kris in many Carlo J. Caparas gore-and-mayhem films. Nariyan ang “Vizconde Massacre”, “The Myrna Diones Story” (this much we remember). All these carried parenthetical subtitles na merong “God” na karaniwan naman sa mga pamagat ng pelikula ni direk Carlo J.

Buhay at malakas pa noon si Tita Cory Aquino, ang ina ni Kris, who made an earnest request na sana naman daw ay gumawa ang kanyang anak ng isang family entertainment movie, one which was wholesome and for general patronage.

Hence, isinilang ang “Tasya Fantasya” na may temang fantasy just right to whet the kids’ viewing appetite for Christmas-themed movies, na sinahugan pa ng mga noo’y hardcourt superstars as a commercial come-on.

Tita Cory’s concern then was to allow her grandchildren to see their aunt in a feel-good film literally minus the sight of cold blood. ‘Yun nga lang, Kris’ grip on fantasy was loose that she never did it the next time around.

Many years later, Kris had branched out into doing creepy movies mostly under the directorial genius of Chito Roño.

Ang inakala naming nth collaboration nila via “(K)ampon” ay iba pala ang direktor, kung paanong naiba na rin ang deve-lopments sa status nito until it finally got booted out of the MMFF race.

While Kris doesn’t feel so bad na laglag na ang “(K)ampon”, she has gained concerned co-actors tulad nina Gabby at Derek who’d eagerly love to work with her hindi man sa pagkakataong ito.
Whatever it takes, the two gentlemen are willing to CAMP her ON.
