OVER the week, ipinagpalagay ng ilang netizens that Ion Perez’s “Say yes, please!” post in his socmed account was a marriage proposal to Vice Ganda.
Bubusina muna kami as we might run over gay couples na pinag-isa in union rites, here or elsewhere.
But what else could the phrase “Say yes, please!” mean?
Again, we have nothing against gay couples choosing to wed. In fact, natutuwa if not naiinggit nga kami everytime we spot gay pairs in public totally impervious to what other people would say.
Exchanging “I do’s” with each other doesn’t just happen the moment they get up from their conjugal bed.
Sina Vice at Ion ay iilang buwan pa lang sa isang relasyong hindi pa inaamin sa buong mundo, but their actions—so goes the cliché—speak louder than words.
Huwag sanang masamain ito ng mga taong kinikilig para sa kanila (as we get tickled ourselves by the mere thought), pero para sa amin (and we hope we’re mistaken), there’s so much “good-to-be-true-ness” to Ion’s wanting to walk Vice Ganda down the aisle.
But for all of Vice Ganda’s intellect ay ramdam niya tiyak ang sinseridad—or sheer lack of it—ng kanyang dyowa. His innermost feelings can tell.
