PUMALAG ang taong nasa likod ng show at costume ni Alden Richards sa upcoming series niyang Victor Magtanggol. Simula kasi nang lumabas ang mga photo ng Pambansang Bae bilang superhero ay maraming nag-akusa na kopya lang ang kuwento at costume sa Marvel hero na si Thor.
Kinomisyon ng GMA Network si Jules Katanyag bilang concept creator at costume designer na si Edrian Baydo kaya naman dahil sa isyu, nagsalita sila sa nagsilbing inspirasyon nila sa paggawa ng series para na rin maka-relate ang mga Pinoy sa character ni Alden.
“Being a writer I have a fondness of the myths. For me myths are archetypal stories that attempt to explain the hidden forces that shape our lives. In myths, forces are given anthropomorphized personalities so the human condition can be better reflected.
“When we were asked to pitch a story inspired by the Norse mythos, I became excited. Pop culture’s access to this timeless story is limited only to Marvel’s repurposed version of the tale.
“But there is more to the story to than that. The opportunity presented itself to tell an ever enduring, and still relevant story…that can be reshaped into something that the Filipino audience can appreciate,” paliwanag ni Jules.
Ipinagdiinan ni Katanyag na ang kuwento ng VM ay inspired ng Norse mythology na isang public domain at hindi kopya sa popular na Marvel hero.
“These stories belong to the Commons, the public domain, Nobody can claim to it and no individual can own it. These stories are rightfully owned by the entire human race, which means anybody can draw from it.
“Since Victor Magtanggol and Marvel’s Thor draw from these same source material, the names and terms are the same but the similarities end there. One glaring difference is that Marvels Thor tells the story of the God of Thunder, an anti-dimensional being, which came to earth to fight supervillains threatening the universe.
“Victor Magtanggol tells the story of what happened after events of Ragnarok where Thor is already dead. Victor Magtanggol is a true Filipino character who loves his country, and reflects our virtue of resilience and capacity to sacrifice for the things we love,” dagdag niya.
Pahayag naman ni Baydo sa costume at armas ni Alden, “Parts of the costume design were inspired from the Moro maille armour. Victor Magtanggol’s armour is a modernized version metal and leather battle gar inherited from its previous mythological and maille armor but stylized as a superhero suit.”
Bago kasi manghusga panoorin muna ang Victor Magtanggol, huh! Saka ang GMA, hindi sasabak sa isang proyekto kung may malalabag sa Intellectual Property Law, huh!
