INAPRUBAHAN ng House committee on revision of laws ang panukalang National Bible Day na akda ng kapatid ni Sen. Manny Pacquiao.
Isa itong special working holiday na ipagdiriwang tuwing huling linggo ng Enero, ayon sa panukala ni Sarangani Rep. Rogelio Pacquiao.
“As a Christian-majority nation, the Philippines recognizes the value of the Holy Bible as the core of the Christian faith,” saad ng panukala.
Sinabi ng kongresista na mahalaga na mapanatili ang paniniwalang espiritwal ng mga Filipino.
“This bill calls for all Christians throughout the archipelago to unite and celebrate the Bible as the cradle of faith,” dagdag pa ni Pacquiao.
Bago ang panukala ni Pacquiao, ipinakita ng gobyerno ang kahalagahan ng Bibliya sa mga proklamasyon na pinirmahan nina dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Corazon Aquino, at Fidel Ramos.
“The proclamations were instrumental in establishing the last week of January of every year as the “National Bible Week”, anito.
Ayon sa 2015 data ng National Statistics Authority, 90 porsyento ng populasyon ng bansa ay Kristiyano.
“At the core of the Christian belief is the Bible, its Holy Book. Sermons, and Homilies of Christian churches dwell on its teachings. It forms and transforms the lives of people across generations. It serves as the foundation of spiritual, moral and social fiber, molding a socially responsible citizenry and a strong nation.”
