MANDATO ng Games and Amusement Board (GAB) ang i-regulate ang mga professional sports sa bansa hindi lamang ang basketball at boxing.
Kaya naman tinututukan ngayon ng GAB, sa pamumuno ng chairman nitong si Abraham Khalil “Baham” Mitra ang volleyball na kasalukuyang may dalawang malalaking torneyo, ang Philippine Superliga (PSL) at Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
Hindi sa pakay ng GAB na makialam o makisawsaw sa dalawang torneyong ito, paliwanag ni Mitra ay nais niyang alalayan at protektahan ang mga professional volleyball players tulad ng tulong na ipinaaabot nito sa mga boxers at basketball players.
“GAB has jurisdiction in all professional sports, including its athletes and officials,” sabi ni Mitra.
“The definition is very clear even during my meeting with Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Butch Ramirez, he said all athletes who represent the country in international competitions should be under the PSC and all athletes who play for a prize or who receives compensation are under the supervision of GAB.”
Ayon pa kay Mitra ay kasalukuyang nakikipag-usap sa GAB ang PSL para sa prosesong makakuha ng lisensiya ang mga manlalaro nito pero ang PVL ay umaapela sa Malacanang at tila ayaw magpasailalim sa GAB.
