Kasabay nito, nagbigay si Duterte ng 72 oras para mapauwi ang mga OFWs mula sa Kuwait.
“We do not intend to offend any government or anyone. But if a ban is what is needed, then let it be so,” sabi ni Duterte.
Ito’y matapos namang matagpuan sa loob ng freezer ang OFW na si Joanna Daniela Demafelis, na nagtamo pa ng mga bugbog sa katawan at pinatay sa sakal.
“Sad to state, it seems that our government is as inutile as our foreign workers are helpless in the present state of things. This is a national shame and yet we proclaim the OFW’s the modern heroes of our Republic. Our words and action simply do not match,” ayon pa kay Duterte.
Aniya, umabot ng 82 ang namatay na OFWs sa Kuwait noong 2016, samantalang 103 naman noong 2017.
“But let me ask: When will this inhuman treatment of our Filipino workers end? When will the upliftment of their human dignity begin? To the Kuwaiti government and all others where our OFWs work, we seek and expect your assistance in this regard,” ayon pa kay Duterte.
Idinagdag ni Duterte na hihilingin niya sa Philippine Airines (PAL) at Cebu Pacific na maglaan ng mga flights para sa mga OFWs na papauwiin.
