Processing fee, legal ba?

Hi ma’am.

May isasanguni lang po sana ako. I’ve been offered a job as hostess at Diplomatic Club in Doha, Qatar. Salary offered is 1800qr (P25,000).

The agency the Job Connection International Manpower Services Inc. is asking for a placement fee, which amount is equivalent to my one month salary. And the processing fee is P15,000. Visa and ticket are provided by the company, so I am wondering why I need to pay this amount for the processing, obviously this is overcharging. Is that legal?

Thank you and I hope you will be able to help me on this matter.

REPLY: Dear Madam

The processing fee could be fine for as long as it is goes directly through the requirements. BUT NOT THE PLACEMENT FEE. There is a prohibition with regards of paying placement fee under the rules of POEA, especially if the agency is asking and equivalent of your one month salary.
For more clarification on this matter, please feel free to call the POEA Hotline numbers at 7221144 and 7221155.

Thank you and have a nice day!
