WAGING Miss Universe 2017 si Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters matapos ang grand coronation sa The AXIS, Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Tinalbugan ni Nel-Peters, 22, isang business management graduate, ang 91 iba pang kandidata mula sa iba’t ibang panig ng universe. Ipinasa sa kanya ni Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere mula sa France ang korona at titulo.
Si Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez ang First-Runner Up habang si Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett naman ang Second-Runner Up.
Samantala, ang pambato ng Pilipinas na si Rachel Peters ay pumasok hanggang sa Top 10, hindi na siya pinalad na mapili sa Final 5.

Tanggap naman ng mga Pinoy ang pagkatalo ni Rachel at ang pagkapanalo ni Miss South Africa, sa katunayan marami ang nagsabi na deserving naman ang dalaga dahil bukod sa ganda ay matalino rin ito.
Pinabilib ni Miss South Africa ang buong universe sa sagot niya sa final na question na: “What quality in yourself are you most proud of and how will you apply that quality to Miss Universe?”
Ang tugon ni Nel-Peters, “As Miss Universe, you have to be confident with who you are as an individual.
“A Miss Universe is a woman that has overcomed many fears and by that, she was able to help other women overcome their fears. She is a woman that nothing is able too much to ask for. And I think that is exactly who I am. Thank you!” aniya pa.
Kung matatandaan huling nanalo ang South Africa (Margaret Gardiner) sa Miss Universe noong 1978.
Ito naman ang naging message ni Rachel sa sambayanang Pinoy, “I did my best but I guess my best wasn’t good enough. Thank you fellow countrymen. I love #Philippines!”
