Kapwa masasaksihan ang eksplosibo at kapana-panabik na import matchup sa salpukan ng San Miguel Beer (1-0) at Phoenix Petroleum (2-2).
Sasandigan ng Beermen si Charles Rhodes sa paghahangad sa ikalawang diretsong panalo para okupahan ang ikatlong silya sa likuran ng nangungunang Star Hotshots (4-0) at Alaska Aces (4-0) kontra sa Fuel Masters na aasa kay Jameel McKay.
Kumulekta si Rhodes ng kabuuang 22 puntos, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist at 1 steal sa 99-92 panalo ng Beermen na ipinalasap ang unang kabiguan sa dating walang talo na Meralco.
“Unfortunately, I had kind of like a bad game. I don’t normally miss free throws,” sabi ni Rhodes na sasandigan ng three-peat Philippine Cup champion San Miguel Beer. “And I just got in foul trouble. That was really frustrating for me, so I’ve just got to get adjusted to the style of play with the referees.”
Umahon naman ang Fuel Masters sa serye ng turnovers sa huling yugto at sinangkalan ang krusyal na mga errors ng Gin Kings noong Sabado upang itakas ang 94-91 upset tampok ang 15 puntos, 28 rebounds, 2 assists at 2 blocks ni McKay.
