1st Week in Ordinary Time 1st Reading:
Heb 2:14-18
Gospel: Mark 1:29-39
As soon as Jesus and his disciples left the synagogue, Jesus went to the home of Simon and Andrew with James and John. As Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with fever, they immediately told him about her. Jesus went to her and taking her by the hand, raised her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. That evening at sundown, people brought to Jesus all the sick and those who had evil spirits: the whole town was pressing around the door
Very early in the morning, before daylight, Jesus went off to a lonely place where he prayed. Simon and the others went out, too, searching for him; and when they found him they said, “Everyone is looking for you.” Then Jesus answered, “Let’s go to the nearby villages so that I may preach there too; for that is why I came.”
So Jesus set out to preach in all the synagogues throughout Galilee; he also cast out demons.

(Daily Gospel in the Assimilated Life Experience)
Jesus silenced the devil that was more than willing to confess his divinity in public because Jesus didn’t want to fuel the people’s expectation of a political liberator. Jesus wanted people to search for him for spiritual reasons. You, what are your reasons for searching Jesus out? Announcers seek Jesus for He is the good news; Bakers for He is the bread of life; Carpenters for He is the house built on rock; Defense lawyers for He is the truth; Engineers for He is the strong foundation; Friends for He is meek and humble of heart; Gardeners for He is the living water; Hypertensive people for He is prince of peace; Indigents for He is compassionate to the poor; judges for He is the truth; Kings for He knows our inmost thoughts; Leaders for He is wisdom; Married people for He is love; Nurses for Jesus is life; Optometrists for Jesus is light
Pilots to be carried safely on eagle’s wings; Queens for glory that lasts; Runners for He is the finish line; Sailors for he commands the winds and the waves; Travelers for He is the way; the Unemployed for He is in need of workers in the vineyard; Veterinarians for the welfare of the sheep; Writers not for the letter that kills but for the spirit that gives life; Xenophobic persons so that in all their actuations they may take this as their motto: “Gentile or Jew, woman or man, no more”. Young people because Jesus loves “little children”. Zealous people lean on Jesus as source of strength. Whatever your reasons are, make sure it leads to your salvation. – (Atty.) Rev. Fr.
