UMALMA ang isang grupo ng mga alumni ng University of Sto. Tomas sa parangal na ibinigay kay Communications Assistant Secretary for social media Mocha Uson ng UST Alumni Association Inc. (USTAAI).
Dahil dito, nais ng Alliance of Concerned Thomasians Alumni Association (ACT-Now) na bawiin ng USTAAI ang award na ibinigay nito sa kontrobersyal na opisyal ng Duterte administration.
Ayon kay Adrian Romero, spokesperson ng ACT-Now, isang malaking insulto ang ginawang pagkilala ng USTAAI kay Mocha na kilalang pasimuno diumano ng fake news.
“It is utterly disgusting for USTAAI, which represents the UST community, to honor someone who deliberately misinforms the public – a deed in total contrast with the educational institution’s core objective to equip and instill Thomasians with knowledge and values that would allow them to be critical of society,” sabi ni Romero.
Hinikayat din ni Romero ang buong komunidad ng UST na manindigan laban sa parangal kay Mocha.
Nauna nang kinondena ng UST Central Student Council ang parangal na ibinigay kay mocha at tinawag pa itong “an avid spreader and citer of fake news.”
Nanawagan din ang mga lider-estudyante mula sa UST Faculty of Arts and Letters sa UST AAI sa bawiin ang parangal kay Mocha.
