March 15, 2015 4th Sunday of Lent 1st Reading: 2 Chr 36:14–17, 19–23 2nd Reading: Eph 2:4–10 Gospel: Jn 3:14–21
Jesus said to Nicodemus, “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
“Yes, God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but may have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world; instead, through him the world is to be saved. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned. He who does not believe is
already condemned, because he has not believed in the Name of the only Son of God. “This is how the Judgment is made: Light has come into the world and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. For whoever does wrong hates the light and doesn’t come to the light for fear that his deeds will be shown as evil.
But whoever lives according to the truth comes into the light so that it can be clearly seen that his works have been done in God.”
D@iGITAL-EXPERIENCE (Daily Gospel in the Assimilated Life Experience)
A story is told of a girl who found at her back fence an old tin can with a fuzzy tail tied to it. She tugged and tugged on it and out came a stiff dead cat. Into the kitchen she dragged it, flies and all, yelling, “Mommy, Mommy, somebody just threw away a perfectly beautiful cat.” The mother was shocked to see the cat and said, “Yes the cat is perfectly beautiful, except that it is dead.”
This world is filled with beautiful people, except that most of them are dead in spirit. All were dead, buried in sin after the fall of Adam and Eve. But God brought us back to life by sending his only Son. “As we were dead through our sins, he gave us life with Christ…” (Ephesians 2:4-10)
“Yes, God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but may have eternal life.”
Unfortunately, there are people who prefer the dead way. “Light has come into the world and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.” The world offers happiness while God offers joy. Happiness depends on happenings; joy comes from within a person’s heart where God is king. The Lenten season should take us back to our senses and revisit our fundamental option.
What has this world got that God should love it? Nothing but sinners like us sinning over and over again. But for as long as among us there are those who truly repent, God won’t withdraw his protection from this world, and will continue to embrace us in his mercy as if we were worth all the love. — Rev.
