NAGHAIN ng resolusyon ang isang solon upang maamyendahan ang Sports Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001 (Republic Act 9064) at madagdagan ang mga international competition na saklaw nito.
Sinabi ni Kabataan Rep. Terry Ridon na dapat mabago na ang batas upang mas maraming national athlete ang makatanggap ng insentibo mula sa gobyerno.
“RA 9064 grants cash and other non-monetary benefits and incentives to national athletes and their coaches. However, the 13-year old law has no provision to adjust its scope to cover new sports competitions,” ani Ridon.
Inihalimbawa ni Ridon ang nangyari sa Filipino archer na si Gabriel Luis Moreno na walang nakuhang insentibo sa gobyerno kahit nag-uwi ito ng ginto sa katatapos na Youth Olympic Games sa Nanjing, China.
“Since the Youth Olympic Games was only introduced in 2010, the Philippine Sports Commission sadly announced that Moreno is not entitled to any cash incentive,” dagdag pa ni Ridon.
Sa ilalim ng RA 9064, ang mga Olympic gold medalist ay bibigyan ng P5 milyong cash incentive. Sinabi ni Ridon na ang kanyang panukala ang tatama sa pagkakamali ng 11th Congress na limitahan ang mga international competition na saklaw ng RA 9064.
“The recent victory of Moreno and the success stories of other youth competitors and victors in different international, continental and regional sporting competitions is testament to the overwhelming potential of Filipino youth that must be fomented and realized,” ani Ridon.
