UMAABOT sa 87.4 porsyento ng mga Pilipino o halos siyam sa bawat 10 tao ang may tooth decay.
Kaya nais ni Quezon Rep. Angelina Tan na magkaroon ng libreng dental service sa bawat rural area upang mapababa ang bilang na ito.
Ayon kay Tan ang dental at oral health ay isa sa mga bagay na hindi binibigyan prayoridad.
“It was recently reported that nearly nine out of 10 Filipinos or 87.4 percent are suffering from tooth decay. Moreover, a staggering 70 percent of Filipinos do not visit their dentists regularly. Of those who visit their dentists, 10 percent go to private dental clinics and 20 percent to government clinics,” ani Tan.
Ayon sa Department of Health, tooth decay o dental carries at periodontal diseases ang pangkaraniwang problema ng mga Pinoy.
Ang Pilipinas ang sumusunod sa Brunei bilang “worst in oral health”.
Ang mga problema kaugnay ng oral hygiene ay isa sa mga dahilan na natukoy kaya uma-absent ang mga estudyante sa paaralan, ayon sa Department of Education.
