HINDI iiwan ni Manny Pacquiao ang Top Rank Promotions. Ito ang pangako ng sikat na Pinoy boxer sa mga haka-hakang lilipat ng promotional outfit si Pacquiao para lamang matuloy ang laban nito sa walang talong boksingero na si Floyd Mayweather Jr. ng Estados Unidos.
“Floyd Mayweather, Jr. never runs out of excuses just to avoid fighting me. If I leave Top Rank, there’s no guarantee the fight would push through.
So, why should I leave Top Rank? Just to make Pacquiao-Mayweather fight happen? No way,” sabi ni Pacquiao sa isang panayam ng Inquirer.
Sabi ni Pacquiao, kung talagang hindi takot si Mayweather na makaharap siya ay papayag ito sa isang laban kahit pa nasa poder pa siya ni Bob Arum.
“The promotional company where I am in should not be made an issue. If this is the fight the world boxing fans want, let’s do it regardless of which promotional outfit we belong. There should be no lame excuses,” sabi ni Pacquiao.
Sinabi kasi ni Mayweather na kung gusto ni Pacquiao na magkasagupa silang dalawa ay umalis siya sa Top Rank ni Arum at lumipat sa promotion ni Mayweather.
“I told him I was staying with Top Rank. I’m not interested to join with his own promotional outfit,” dagdag ni Pacquiao.
Inabisuhan din ni Pacquiao si Mayweather na maging mapagkumbaba at huwag mang-insulto sa kapwa boksingero.
“When Floyd Mayweather was jailed for domestic violence, I prayed for him. Did you ever hear me say anything bad against him? I did not insult him while he was down and inside the prison cell. Instead, I prayed to God to change his heart,” sabi ni Pacquiao.
Taliwas ito sa ginawa ni Mayweather noong natalo si Pacquiao kay Juan Manuel Marquez ng Mexico noong 2012.
“Floyd Mayweather keeps on insulting me for that knockout.
We are not perfect. We all commit mistakes. I made a big mistake during my last fight with Marquez,” aniya. “It was both a humbling and learning experience. It has even made me a better and stronger person.”
Hindi naman aniya gaganti si Pacquiao sa mga pang-iinsulto sa kanya ni Mayweather. “God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble and the obedient,” sabi ni Pacquiao.
Samantala, magpahanggang ngayon ay hindi pa nakapagdedesisyon si Pacquiao kung sino ang nais niyang makalaban sa nakatakda niyang laban sa Abril 12 sa Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Dalawa lamang ang pinagpipilian ng kanyang kampo: Timothy Bradley ng Estados Unidos at Ruslan Provodnikov ng Russia. Sa dalawa ay mas matunog ang pangalan ni Bradley dahil sa nagharap na sila noong 2012.
Sa una nilang pagkikita ay nanalo si Bradley sa pamamagitan ng split decision. Ang panalong ito ay nabahiran ng kontrobersiya dahil ang paniwala ng karamihan ay si Pacquiao dapat ang idineklarang panalo.
Naagaw din ni Bradley ang World Boxing Organization welterweight title ni Pacquiao sa labang iyon.
