DAHIL pinagningning nila ang Pilipinas sa nilahukang malalaking torneo, tatlong pool players at isang batang taekwondo jin ang siyang tatanggap ng President’s Award sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Annual Awards Night sa Enero 25 sa Solaire Resorts & Casino.
Sina Rubilen Amit, Dennis Orcullo at Lee Van Corteza sa larangan ng bilyar at Mikaela Calamba ng taekwondo ang siyang gagawaran ng nasabing parangal matapos maging world champion sa kanilang sports.
Si Amit ay nanalo sa Women’s World 10-Ball Championship na ginawa sa Pilipinas habang sina Orcullo at Corteza ang nagdomina sa World Cup of Pool.
Hindi nagpahuli si Calamba na kumuha ng dalawang ginto sa World Poomsae Championships.
Lumabas bilang individual freestyle champion ang tubong Cebu na si Calamba habang nakatuwang niya sina Jocel Lyn Ninobla at Rinna Babanta sa under-17 team competition.
“Their respective triumphs are proof that Filipino athletes are truly world-class,” wika ni PSA president Lorenzo “Jun” Lomibao ng Business Mirror.
